2. On a beautiful, sunny day in

On a beautiful, sunny day in Denver, CO, 10 people (including one adorable baby) came together for a WeStrive Meet-up.  After a bit of initial parking confusion, (chuck it up to city living!) we settled in the living room.  A bit shy at first, attendees soon dug into the delicious array of potluck dishes.  Although it may seem silly to focus on the food, it seems essential somehow.  Maybe because of its colorful palate, maybe because sharing food with others - as I see it - can be a very intimate experience... Regardless of the specifics, quiet satisfaction filled the space between us as we ate the cuisine offered by our fellow community members.

After having our fill (dessert included), we did a journaling exercise.  The Meet-up - the first for the host and all the attendees - was a good learning experience.  It became evident that with such profound questions as those raised by Jane Lorand in the Meet-up preparation material, less is more.  That's to say that instead of focusing on all the questions, which is what we tried to do, it would have been wise to take one question and really delve into it.  Despite that, the exercise was a good opportunity to quietly reflect before watching the video.

After a short time we pulled out the laptop and began watching Jane's presentation.  Her observations fueled interesting discussion, and an easy conversation wove between us.  Main topics included the role of corporations/business in today's world, the impulse behind community work, how fear affects our lives, and related topics that emerged as we shared personal experiences and questions that arose from watching the presentation.

Although the presentation was interesting and gave us each something to think about, my sense throughout - and after - the gathering was that what we all enjoyed most was the opportunity to come together and be "in community."  The joy of being together and sharing - time, space, food and conversation - was palpable, and we look forward to doing it again soon.

Thank you to WeStrive for encouraging us to come together and make time for one another.  We are all appreciative!
