New View magazine presents a conference on 'Technology and the Human Spirit'...
The day will run from 10am - 6pm and there will be four guest speakers offering contributions to the theme with space for questions and discussion:

Morning Speakers:
Jeremy Naydler: The Inhuman in Our Midst: Reflections on the Origins and Development of the Computer.
Jeremy Naydler, Ph.D., is a philosopher living in Oxford, England. His overview explores the origins of the computer in 17th century mechanistic philosophy and its subsequent development in the following centuries. He has a long-standing interest in the history of consciousness and is currently writing a book on the history of the computer from this perspective.
Patrick Dixon: Technology and the mech-animal.
Patrick Dixon, a writer, lecturer, playwright and artist living in London, will offer an ‘underview’, looking at the spiritual influences at work in technology, particularly the forces of electricity and electromagnetism – which Rudolf Steiner referred to as coming from sub-nature and the Ahrimanic realm – and how they impact on the human soul and spirit. How could a future technosophy come about?

Afternoon speakers:
Eugene Schwartz: Encounters with the iGeneration.
Eugene Schwartz from the USA has been a Waldorf teacher and consultant for 35 years. He has pioneered the use of digital media and the Internet as one means for bringing Waldorf education to a wider public. He will explore with us the cultural ramifications of modern technology and their impact on education in the twenty-first century.
Andrew Linnell:  Creating the Mirror of Life: The Invisible Technology. When Nanotechnology Transcends Biology.
Andrew Linnell, also from the USA, has 38 years experience in the field of computers and related technologies. He will be speaking about the future of this technology, how it will change society and what is its purpose in human and cosmic development.

This is the first conference hosted by New View magazine and we intend it to lead to a series of conferences concerned with important social and cultural issues. We are using the Rudolf Steiner House Theatre (maximum capacity 228) with access to its own Biodynamic Café. There are also many other local cafés and restaurants within a short walking distance.

The cost for attending TECHNOLOGY AND THE HUMAN SPIRIT is £60.00 (meals not included).
There is an early booking discount £55.00 if paid by 15th April 2010.
