About Groups

One of the exciting new features of WeStrive is "groups".  Groups are more defined or specific networks or communities within the greater WeStrive community.  Each group can have subscribers, and maintains a group home page where subscribers communicate amongst themselves.

Currently there are 26 groups on WeStrive with focus areas based on geography, like the Northern California Group and UK S.E.E.D, special interests like A People for Perlas, Waldorf K-8 and Camphill, social renewal initiatives like ThinkOutWord and existing communities like the North American Youth Section.  Groups can also be created in connection with events, like the NZ Summer Gathering group and the Focus initiative meeting group.

Groups may be selective or not. Selective groups require approval in order to become a member, or even invitation-only groups. Groups can have their own members, theme, language, calendar, forums, and more.  Groups can also share documents and media files within the group.

Groups managers can also make different pages, just like any other web site.  A group can also make a page with an RSS feed from another site - see for example A People for Perlas.

Group posts, in forums, blogs, calendars etc can be marked as "public" or "not.  If the post is public then the post will automatically appear in the greater WeStrive site, in the WeStrive calendar etc.  If it is not marked public then the post will only appear in the group.  If the group is selective then only members will see the post, if it is a public group then visitors and members will only see the post in the group area within WeStrive.

Each group can have its own logo, and if the group manager has accumulated K¢ 500 or more the group can use one of several selected alternative themes.  This means the group, whilst still connected to the WeStrive community will appear distinctive from the rest of the site.

Groups managers can also choose whether to list the group in the group directory and in the user registration form.

A further application of WeStrive groups is the possibility for initiatives or organizations to have a fully fledged website embedded within the WeStrive community.  This means that all of the functions of WeStrive groups is available but in addition the initiative or organization can have its own WWW domain name and a unique theme as well no WeStrive ads.

If you create a group you can also delete the group whenever you want.
